Visiting Artist Grant

The Delta College arts program invites professional artists from the Michigan area to apply for the Visiting Artist Grant.

We love showcasing, learning and interacting with artists. 

 

Requirements to apply

The Delta College Permanent Art Collection Committee is seeking visiting artist applicants with diverse interests, backgrounds, mediums that are active professional artists within their community. See the Delta College Permanent Art Collection page for more information.

The chosen artist for the academic year will be awarded a $3,500 grant to be used for:

• visiting artist fees
• transportation costs  
• the purchase of one work from the visiting artist’s exhibit to be added to the Delta College Permanent Art Collection 

Fulfillment of the grant

The selected artist would be asked to:

• exhibit their work in Delta College’s S Wing Gallery
• lead a lecture and/or workshop for students
• allow the purchase of an artwork from the exhibition by Delta College to become part of Delta College’s Permanent Art Collection

Materials to include

• 10 to 20 artwork image files, in a single folder, .jpg format 
• a written proposal of what work would be exhibited
• a written proposal of the workshop/lecture
• any additional context of your work you think would be valuable to committee members in making their decision    

Deadline

Open for submission year round. Applicants will be notified if they are chosen for a future academic year.

Tisch Mikhail Lewis

Tisch Mikhail Lewis is an artist who lives and works in Metro Detroit. As a relational artist focused on painting, Lewis’ work explores the human experience through a sociological lens, aiming to make a positive impact on society. Their current work uses abstract representations of fat figures to challenge negative assumptions about fatness and encourage new ways of understanding the body.

They have exhibited work in numerous exhibitions across the United States and internationally, including venues such as The Scarab Club in Detroit, Field Projects in New York City, the Saginaw Art Museum in Saginaw, MI, and the Stella Elkins Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. Lewis has also presented in multiple artist talks and panels throughout Michigan, including collaborations with faculty at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Lewis is active in the arts community as a curator, gallery professional, and arts organizer. They have served in a supportive capacity at the Saginaw African Cultural Festival, National Conference of Artists, Michigan Chapter, Power of Dad, Swords into Plowshares Peace Center & Gallery, and Hatch: A Hamtramck Art Collective (Hatch Art), among others. They earned their A.F.A. in Art & Design at Delta College, B.F.A. in Painting at Central Michigan University and completed a non-credit post-baccalaureate residency at the Tyler School of Art & Architecture. Lewis believes art can create connections, encourage dialogue, and provide opportunities to understand experiences beyond our own.
