Last year, Delta College’s Computer Science and Information Technology Wing, commonly known as the K Wing, underwent its first major renovation since the college opened in 1961.
The K Wing is home to Delta’s Cybersecurity Center, which is recognized by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Security Agency (NSA) as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education. A variety of computer-based programs are benefiting from this upgrade including Cybersecurity, Business & Information Technology, Office Management, Network Administration, Computer Programming, IT Support, Data Science and Mechatronics.
“The extra screens in the classroom benefit the students immensely. When I teach a computer software program, students follow along to learn and practice the software’s functionality,” shares Instructor Connie Barber.
More than 1,000 students are enrolled in around 80 courses that utilize K Wing’s labs
and classrooms each semester. This renovation project added 4,673 square feet of space
that includes new student lounge areas and collaborative labs.
The upgraded ventilation system supplies heating and
cooling to all classrooms, which reduces noise and cost, thereby improving efficiency.
“It’s certainly a significant improvement. K Wing itself is much more open and friendly, with lots of natural light,” says Associate Professor, Bill Schueneman. “Classrooms are bigger, quieter—no HVAC rattling and clanking—with better lighting and more accessibility.”
The college celebrated the completion of this major project with a ribbon cutting
ceremony December 5, 2025. The cost of this project totaled $6.7 million, of which
$2.4 million was provided in a matching grant approved by State of Michigan representatives.
