Prison education program

Delta College partners with the Saginaw Correctional Facility in Freeland, Michigan, for justice-involved individuals to pursue a postsecondary education. Students complete their coursework together, as a cohort. 

Criteria for college

To participate in the prison education program with Delta College, potential student must meet the following guidelines:

  • Earned high school diploma or high school equivalency (GED or HiSet).
  • Have not completed a post-secondary degree.
  • Potential students should have at least 18 months until the release date.
  • Misconduct history will be reviewed.
  • Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) security level I or II.

How to enroll

  1. Interested students should contact the MDOC college program coordinator if they meet the criteria above.
  2. Once the post-secondary program interest form is completed, the student is then counseled and placed on the statewide waiting list.
  3. If the student is selected for the program, Delta's program coordinator will be notified.
  4. The program coordinator will then notify the selected students.
  5. Next, students will complete the college application and FAFSA paperwork.
