Delta College partners with the Saginaw Correctional Facility in Freeland, Michigan, for justice-involved individuals to pursue a postsecondary education. Students complete their coursework together, as a cohort.
Criteria for college
To participate in the prison education program with Delta College, potential student must meet the following guidelines:
- Earned high school diploma or high school equivalency (GED or HiSet).
- Have not completed a post-secondary degree.
- Potential students should have at least 18 months until the release date.
- Misconduct history will be reviewed.
- Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) security level I or II.
How to enroll
- Interested students should contact the MDOC college program coordinator if they meet the criteria above.
- Once the post-secondary program interest form is completed, the student is then counseled and placed on the statewide waiting list.
- If the student is selected for the program, Delta's program coordinator will be notified.
- The program coordinator will then notify the selected students.
- Next, students will complete the college application and FAFSA paperwork.
