Delta named to statewide committee to streamline transfer

As part of the state’s efforts to achieve their Sixty by 30 goal, which seeks to increase the number of working-age adults with a postsecondary degree or certificate to 60% by the year 2030, the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) launched the Advisory Council on Transfer Success (ACTS). The main goal of this new council is to streamline transfer pathways for Michigan students.

Delta College’s dean of Transfer Programs and Online Learning, Dr. David Hopkins, was invited to join 15 influential representatives from colleges and universities across the state, including Michigan State University, the University of Michigan – Dearborn, and Eastern Michigan University, to name a few. These representatives will meet regularly and serve on ACTS through June 2027.

“This MiLEAP advisory group is a great chance to have Delta help lead the way on transfer in the state,” shares Dr. Hopkins. “Along with collaborators from other Michigan colleges, I hope to help streamline and strengthen transfer pathways for students across the state, just like we are working on here at Delta, making the process even more transparent and equitable for those students. I am glad that the state is making this a priority.”

The council’s focus will center developing new transfer pathways along with reviewing the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) and the Michigan Transfer Network (MTN) to ensure student coursework transfers smoothly between participating institutions and information is transparent and accessible. Through this work, ACTS will guide statewide efforts to improve transfer systems, strengthen collaboration and, in turn, increase degree completion.
