Head to the Delta College Planetarium for a special night all about our solar system’s largest planet—Jupiter! This event will be held on Friday, February 13 at 6pm.
With Jupiter in prime position for observing, the Delta College Planetarium will host a special, family-friendly event that includes hands-on activities, a live planetarium show and rooftop telescope viewing (weather permitting). This event is free and open to the public.
The planetarium’s Grand Atrium Lobby opens at 6 pm with activity tables and demonstrations, suitable for all ages. At 7pm, head inside the Dome360 Theater for an immersive screening of Dateline: Jupiter, which takes you on a guided tour of the gas giant planet and its moons. The show will conclude with a presentation by planetarium staff on the latest spacecraft news and tips for observing Jupiter in our current night sky. Weather permitting, the evening will end with guided sky-observation.
“Earth and Jupiter’s recent close approach has put Jupiter in the best position for observing with telescopes,” says Mike Murray, planetarium manager. “Even at 400 million miles away, Jupiter is so big that it will continue to provide excellent views for several months. Jupiter shines like a brilliant star low in the east after dusk.”
