At Delta College, students learn to recognize threats, solve problems and communicate solutions in a field that never stops changing.

Learn by doing
From networks and firewalls to programming and threat detection, students put their knowledge to work through hands-on learning.
Cybersecurity faculty Oliver Strong compares it to learning to ride a bike: You can explain every step, but eventually, you need the bike.
“That’s what I think we do very well at Delta,” he said. “We get people with their hands on the technology and applying the theoretical concepts that they need to know as soon as possible.”
Students have access to technology in Delta’s K Wing and coursework designed to prepare them for industry certifications, including CompTIA A+, Security+ and Cisco certifications. Delta College's Cybersecurity Center is also recognized by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education.
Built to fit
That hands-on experience doesn’t disappear for online students.
For cybersecurity student Madeline Smith, returning to college while raising and homeschooling three children meant finding a program that worked with her schedule.
“I would not have been able to go back to school without the online platform,” Smith said. “I don’t have the flexibility to go into campus... So, the online aspect has been really amazing.”
Even online, she has opportunities to complete labs, connect with classmates and get support from professors.
For Smith, the goal is to put her education to work helping others, especially children and older adults who may be vulnerable to online scams.
With new technology comes new challenges and new opportunities to make a difference.
