Delta College graduates, and their loved ones, gathered on the main campus last week for two days of celebration.
The Friday commencement ceremony recognized graduates in business, technology and health. The Saturday ceremony honored graduates in arts and letters, science and mathematics, and social sciences, as well as those earning all other associate’s degrees and all dual-enrolled or Early Middle College students.
As Andrea Ursuy, interim president of Delta College, addressed the sea of green, she shared insights on the importance of dedication and putting in the work.
“You’re not here because you got lucky. You didn’t just land in that seat today. You’re moving up in your career or you’re transferring with your bachelor’s half completed, not because of chance, but because you made it happen through hard work and perseverance,” Ursuy said. “You are walking across this stage because you, and in many cases your families, made sacrifices to get here.”
Those gathered also heard from two student speakers, Rebecca Yager and Jawain Swint, who shared their personal stories of success and well wishes for their peers.
Together, about 450 graduates attended the ceremonies. This academic year, Delta College will award nearly 1,600 associate degrees and certificates.
