2026 Bergstein Award recipients: Denise Beasecker (left) and Barbara Syed

For the 61st year, Delta College recognizes the outstanding achievements of its faculty and staff members and celebrates their years of service during its annual Employee Awards.

This year’s honorees include two faculty members who will receive the prestigious Bergstein Award for Teaching Excellence. This award is the highest honor a faculty member can receive and recognizes their commitment to teaching excellence. Denise Beasecker, associate professor of nursing and Barbara Syed, associate professor of office administration technology, were chosen for the award by a vote from students and faculty.

Twelve years ago, Beasecker brought her clinical expertise and a steady presence to Delta College, educating and mentoring the next generation of nurses. Outside the classroom, she manages Delta’s Closet, providing students with free professional clothing for job interviews.

“No words can explain the excitement or reward I feel at every nursing pinning ceremony,” said Beasecker. “I’m so grateful to Delta College for providing me the opportunity to follow my passion and fulfill my dream.”

Syed earned her bachelor’s degree in medical case management from Davenport University and her master’s in healthcare administration & leadership from Capella University. She has also been with Delta College for over 12 years. Barb has been the medical office program coordinator during her entire tenure at Delta, teaching all the courses in the program.

“Professor Syed is an amazing professor," one student said of her experience with Syed.
