Shalini Kantayya, activist and award-winning filmmaker of TikTok, Boom, Catching the Sun and Coded Bias joins us Tuesday, October 14 from 10 – 11:30am on Delta’s main campus in the Lecture Theater (G160) as part of the Delta College President’s Speaker Series.
Two-time Emmy-nominated filmmaker Shalini Kantayya directs fiction and nonfiction films that artfully marry the future of science with the future of story. Her debut feature, Catching the Sun, released globally on Netflix on Earth Day 2016 with Executive Producer Leonardo DiCaprio and was named a New York Times Critics’ Pick. Shalini’s 2020 Sundance film, Coded Bias, was broadcast nationally on PBS’s Independent Lens and globally on Netflix in April 2021.
Through her company, 7th Empire Media, Shalini Kantayya aims to create a culture of human rights and sustainability through imaginative media that makes a real impact. In this entertaining and interactive presentation, Shalini incorporates clips from her films to share how to tell a story that moves the heart, reaches new audiences and inspires change.
