Graduate Student Awards recognizes student academic achievements

Delta College celebrated the success of its high-achieving students during its annual Graduate Student Awards Ceremony Monday, April 21.

The awards recognize outstanding new graduates who represent the future of the Great Lakes Bay Region and beyond. Awards are given to students for their academic achievement, hard work and persistence in a number of areas.

Thanks to the generosity of many businesses, organizations and individuals, recipients will receive lasting recognition on plaques displayed at Delta and monetary gifts to assist with their future endeavors.

Award of Excellence for Academic & Citizenship
William R. Collings Award of Excellence, $1,250

Peyton Baase, of Saginaw, graduated with an associate in science with a 4.0 GPA. Peyton is enrolled in the Great Lakes Early College program and has been taking courses to fulfill requirements for veterinary schools. She has worked as a math tutor and served as the secretary for her Student Council. Peyton is deeply involved in her community, regularly volunteering and fostering kittens for Amazing Grace Animal Rescue. She assists with various tasks at the shelter, including cleaning cages, refilling food bowls, replacing blankets and providing love and attention to unadopted cats.

Exemplary Service & Leadership Award
Robert and Joyce Hetzler Family, $1,000

Grace J. Stern, of Midland, graduated with an associate in arts with a 3.8 GPA. Grace volunteers in her school district of Bullock Creek with youth camps and is also involved in many activities with the 4-H program. At Delta, she attends and assists the athletic director with game prep and scoring. Grace currently works as an in-home daycare, coaches freshman volleyball at Bullock Creek High School and tends to her family farm. She plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education.
