Are you a technical thinker who likes to solve problems and work with your hands? A career as an electrician may be the perfect fit for you.

What do electricians do?

Electricians must gain licensure through the state in which they will be employed to perform the dangerous job of installing, maintaining and repairing electrical wiring and equipment. Specializing as either a residential electrician or an industrial electrician, electricians ensure their work is performed in accordance with relevant codes and standards.

“I’ve seen so many individuals make a 30-year career out of it and retire,” shares Chris Hernden, instructor. “To be able to learn, to go out and get things fixed is a very rewarding experience and it keeps a lot of people in that job for many, many years.”

How much to electricians make?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the electrician field is projected to grow by 9% through 2034. This growth rate is much faster than the average rate across industries and is estimating 81,000 annual job openings. The average salary for electricians in Michigan is $70,126.

Why choose Delta?

Delta College prepares students for careers as residential or industrial electricians. Its programs are led by instructors who have worked in or currently work in the industry, sharing invaluable knowledge with their students. The classes are designed for hands-on training in state-of-the-art labs that ensure you’re prepared to keep yourself and others safe when you start working in the field.

“There were others before me who didn’t pass their journeyman exam because they were doing online only programs. I didn’t want to do that. I prefer face-to-face,” admitted Joshua Pope, student. “So, I did some research and found that Delta has an excellent electrical program that meets the state requirements. The quality of learning has really made me shine at work.”
