Delta College is designated as a 2023-2024 Voter-Friendly Campus, earned ALL IN’s Highly Established Action Plan Seal for the 2024 election cycle and continues doing its part to empower students in making their voices heard.
The Democracy Commitment, a non-partisan national program, at Delta is hosting a four-day voter registration and absentee ballot drive at three of their campuses: main campus, Downtown Saginaw Center and Downtown Midland Center.
The drive will run from Monday, September 16 through Thursday, September 19 from 9am – 4pm each day. Students, faculty, staff and community members may visit any of the three campuses during these times to get registered to vote, identify their polling location, request an absentee ballot, make a voting plan or engage in friendly discussion on the importance of being an active and engaged citizen. Giveaways will also be available while supplies last.
“In 2022, Michigan boasted the highest youth voter turnout in the country,” says Lisa
Lawrason, professor of political science and co-campus coordinator of The Democracy
Commitment at Delta College. “Delta’s designation as a voter-friendly campus shows
that we are doing our part to ensure the interests and voices of community college
students are raised in the political process.”
The goal of this drive is to help remove some of the barriers many people encounter
when it comes to fully participating in this political process each election season.
“When young people turn out to vote at high rates, politicians start paying closer
attention to how they can better represent them. It's all about empowering them to
shape their community through participating in elections,” adds Professor Lawrason.
