Frequently asked questions

Yes. The Staff Development Plan was created to ensure that all staff have the opportunity to continually develop their skills.

Full-time employees will need to complete 12 hours per year (July 1 – June 30).
Part-time employees will need to complete six hours per year (July 1 – June 30).

Work with your supervisor to choose these opportunities.

The COS will offer on-line and face-to-face professional development and training opportunities. Your department may offer some opportunities, too. Additionally, you will have other opportunities through Fall Learning Days, Support Staff and AP Professional Development Days, and Great College -- just to name a few.

You could watch webinars, attend conferences, and take classes. Please note: for conferences, all hours may not count towards your staff development plan hours.

Ultimately, your supervisor will make the final decision. But, talk with your supervisor before and after the event to ensure that the two of you are in agreement. For college-sponsored events such as Great College, Support Staff Professional Development Day, and the ECAPS Professional Development Day, we will publish the applicable hours prior to the event.

The COS has a training room available for your use, please call and schedule time before hand. The library also has computers available for your use.

Your supervisor will determine if the hours will count toward your professional development hours. The goal is to get a balance of opportunities with a goal of growth within the strategic overall focus areas of Delta College.

Verify with your supervisor before you attend and see if and/or how much hours will be credit to your professional development hours.

Not at this time. If you engage in professional development around a Senate membership – such as “How to Lead a Meeting,” that would count.

Your supervisor will determine if the time in class will count toward your professional development plan hours. The goal is to get a balance of opportunities with a goal of growth within the strategic overall focus areas of Delta College.

You are responsible for tracking your professional development hours, your supervisor and you should have an agreement on what hours are credited towards your professional development plan. Your supervisor will make the final decision.
