The COS provides resources and support for professional development for ALL employees, both faculty and staff. We offer departmental support, workshops and retreats, instructional support, coaching and mentoring.

Strategic initiative: People Focus

Staff Development Plan hours earned: 1 hour, upon passing course quiz with 80% or above

Course Summary:  Successful collaboration involves far more than just working side-by-side. It's a process that requires attitudes, skills, and practices that can be learned and strengthened - and mastering them will not only make your job easier, it will help you become more successful professionally.  This course will focus on how to structure and implement an effective collaboration process so that working with others will be a productive and enjoyable experience.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand when collaboration is an effective and beneficial approach to a project - and when it isn't.
  • Establish and communicate expectations to group members to ensure a successful collaboration.
  • Recognize the inward attitudes and outward behaviors necessary to collaborate well.
  • Implement communication strategies that foster collaboration and avoid those that hinder it.
  • Build your network to increase your ability to collaborate.
  • Identify non-collaborative behaviors and implement stratgies to cope with them.

Course Summary:  In today's fast-paced world, effective time management is an essential skill for achieving personal and professional goals.  This course will help you understand how to adapt time management to fit your personal preferences and work style while also eliminating distractions and procrastination to enhance your focus and productivity.

Course Objectives:

    • Define various approaches  and understand the relationship between time management style and personality preferences.
    • Assess your time management style.
    • Outline traditional time management steps and identify when to use.
    • Recognize the causes of procrastination and learn tips to overcome.
    • Use a four-step strategy to make to-do lists manageable.
    • Define boundaries and learn to manage interruptions.
    • Clear out clutter and organize your work space.
    • Utilize the priority matrix.
    • Designate the priorities of a balanced life.
    • Blend the strengths of the four time management styles to customize your own mix of efficiency and comfort.
