Student Employment Handbook

Introduction

This handbook will provide departments and supervisors with information regarding the employment of students. Procedures have also been established to facilitate the collection of required employment records.

Objective of Student Employment at Delta College

The purpose of Student Employment at Delta College is to:

• • Provide the student with an opportunity to receive training and/or experience in a diverse work environment
  • Give the student an opportunity to gain a sense of work, its responsibilities and expectations
  • Assist Delta College departments in carrying out their responsibilities and expectations

Some Delta students have excellent skills and may even have prior work experience. For other students this will be their first work experience. Supervisors should remember that all students are employed as trainees and should not be expected to possess the same skills or to function at the same level as regular Delta employees. Departments hiring student workers are expected to make a commitment to encourage, train and provide productive supervision to its student workers.
