Delta College Adds Clinical Medical Assistant Advanced Certificate Program

March 5, 2019

Nursing student working with faculty in hospitalDelta College recently created a new Clinical Medical Assistant Advanced Certificate program. This is a one-year program that addresses the growing need by local health institutions.

"Delta College is very pleased to add this program to our list of offerings," said Virginia Przygocki, Dean of Career Education. "A couple advantages to students are that Delta’s program was created with input of local employers, ensuring graduates will have the skills employers want, and the reasonable cost. The total investment for Delta’s Clinical Medical Assistant certificate program is much lower than what some area for-profit career training schools are charging."

Clinical Medical Assistants perform various administrative and clinical tasks to keep physician and other health practitioner offices running smoothly. Clinical Medical Assistants work alongside physicians, primarily in outpatient or ambulatory care, performing duties such as recording medical histories and vital signs, explain treatment procedures to patients and prep patients for evaluation.

"Medical Assistants must have strong verbal and written communication skills, organization and computer knowledge," said Barbara Syed, Office Professions Instructor. "Delta College is very adept at teaching those skills, which makes our graduates sought after."

According to Career Coach, there are more than 100 annual opening for positions in the Great Lakes Bay Region for this field due to openings caused by industry growth and worker transition.
