“I didn’t think that I would make it.”

College dreams come true for student.

Yeiris’Mia Hardister, a 2023 Arthur Hill High School graduate, was once doubtful that her future would include her dream of college, admitting that she never “had the luxury” of saving up for it.

Hardister, a Saginaw native, credits her time in the Possible Dream program for exposing her to experiences and opportunities that reignited her hope of obtaining a college education. This fall, she started at Delta College in the physical therapist assistant program.

“I didn’t think that I would make it, but I’m grateful that I did. All you can do is keep going. That’s all you can do,” Hardister said. “Now, I’ve graduated high school and will start college.”

In June, she was honored with fellow graduating high school seniors during the program’s induction ceremony of a new generation of “dreamers.” She remembered being the once shy seventh grader who loved learning and ultimately came out of her shell thanks to a teacher who nominated her. Now, she’s ready to conquer what’s next.

Q: Why did you choose Delta?

Hardister: It felt like a good place to start and I’m not far away from home. I am becoming more independent and felt that Delta would be a good launching pad for me.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about college?

Hardister: I’m looking forward to learning more about myself. My first year of college will introduce met to new experiences and what I want to do in my life moving forward.

Q: What sparked your interest in physical therapy?

Hardister: I went to the Saginaw Career Complex for the physical therapy program for two years. I was interested in helping people in the medical field but didn’t want to go the doctor route. I job shadowed a physical therapist and saw how she helped people and gave them hope.
So, I figured that would be something I could do.
