Privacy Rights of Students

Board Policy 10.008

    1. In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 (the Buckley Amendment), any unit of the College holding student records will obtain the written consent of the student before disclosing from his or her educational records personally identifiable information other than directory information. Written consent of the student is not required for Delta College Staff or Faculty to utilize educational records for legitimate educational interests.
    2. The College will permit a person who is or has been in attendance at the College to inspect and review his or her educational records. A student who believes that information in his or her records is inaccurate or misleading or violates privacy may request the administration of the College to amend the records. All requests for amendment of records must be directed to the Office of the Vice President of Student and Educational Services.

For explanations, exceptions, definitions or interpretations, see Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA). Unless superseded by law the above basic rule applies.
