Tips for Effective Online Learning

From Delta College's eLearning Team

1. Communicate and collaborate

  • Communicate with your instructor regularly using your Delta email.
  • Check your Delta email at least daily.
  • Use Zoom to schedule study groups with your classmates.
  • Seek out/give support to your classmates.

2. Tips for online learning

  • Schedule your time. Designate time during your week for classwork just as if you were going to a face-to-face class.
  • Minimize distractions and avoid multitasking. Silence your phone and email while studying.
  • Use the resources from Delta's eLearning team
  • Check out Education Corner for tips on study skills.

3. You're not alone

  • If you have any problems or questions about eLearning, visit the student resources page and click on the yellow, "Submit a Helpdesk Ticket" button.
  • You can also email elearning@delta.edu and we will get back with you.
  • The eLearning team looks forward to helping you with your online experience.

  • Consumers Energy and DTE Energy 
    Both companies are suspending shutoffs for non-pay for low-income and senior customers beginning March 16 through April 5. These time frames could be adjusted depending on the spread and severity of the virus. If you have questions or need assistance, Consumers Energy can be reached at 800-477-5050 and DTE Energy can be reached at 800-477-4747.

  • MiBridges
    This is an all-inclusive website that allows students to apply for state benefits and locate local resources to meet their non-academic needs. Through this no-cost platform, students can apply and/or locate healthcare coverage, food assistance program, cash assistance, child development & care and state emergency relief.

    Michigan 2-1-1 is an easy way to connect with help of all kinds, right in your community. Need help with food, housing, or paying bills? Need support in a family crisis or community disaster? We’re here for you. Any time. All the time. Just call, text, or search online and we’ll get you connected.
  • Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Information
  • National Domestic Violence Hotline and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
    As social distancing is encouraged and students are spending more time at home, this resource may be helpful as students navigate their home environment. 
  • National Suicide Prevention Hotline
    This resource provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals. 
  • Partners in Change
    Partner in Charge is capable of providing mental health services to you in the safety of your own home.  Over the past year, we have aggressively developed our teletherapy capabilities and are able to serve the public with 20+ clinicians online. Teletherapy is conducted using secured video conferencing.  However, if you don’t have internet access or a computer, we can also conduct therapy over the telephone. Not only is this a critical method for delivering service in this time of crisis, but recent studies have proven these delivery methods are highly effective.
