Delta College is very pleased to bring Air Force Major Mary Jennings (MJ) Hegar a groundbreaking and inspirational woman to the Great Lakes Bay Region as part of its President's Speaker Series. Join us for "Women in Combat: A Soldier on Being a Catalyst for Change," on Wednesday, March 29 at 10am in the Delta College Lecture Theater (G160).
Hegar filed -- and won -- a landmark lawsuit against the Department of Defense that paved the way for women in combat. Before this, on a tour in Afghanistan, the Medevac helicopter she piloted was shot down, forcing her to take action that helped save lives and earned her historic recognition. She speaks on leadership, being the catalyst for change and thriving under pressure. She is a member of Foreign Policy’s 100 Leading Global Thinkers for 2013 and has a new book on her life out this month titled, “Shot Like a Girl: One Woman’s Dramatic Fight in Afghanistan and on the Home Front.”
Senator John McCain calls ‘Shoot Like a Girl’ is a must-read about an American patriot whose courage and determination will have a lasting impact on the future of our Armed Forces and the nation.
Major Hegar’s presentation will be one hour followed by dialogue with the audience and a book sale and signing. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets required.
