Protecting your data: Delta College to host free cybersecurity event

October 11, 2021

As a large number of people in the region continue to work from home, Delta College is again hosting a virtual community event in October about how to be safer and more secure online.

The one-hour course, “If You Connect It, Protect It! Securing Devices at Home and Work,” will be hosted by Kristopher Howery, lead instructor for Delta’s cybersecurity program. The event, free and open to the community, takes place in conjunction with National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

The course will be offered twice on Zoom:

Howery, associate professor of computer science and information technology, will discuss online protection, email security and firewalls, as well as password security and how to properly store passwords.

Delta’s cybersecurity associate’s degree program received national attention in 2019, when the college was designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education, jointly sponsored by the U.S. National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
