Delta College celebrated its newest graduates May 21 at a special outdoor event, Cruise-in Commencement.
With graduation caps and robes in hand, more than 200 students and their families drove through campus in their vehicles to celebrate and take photos on the sunny, 85-degree day. Delta College President Dr. Jean Goodnow greeted students and handed them their diploma covers, while Board Trustees, faculty and staff members cheered them on.
For Goodnow, this year’s commencement is bittersweet, as it’s her last one as president. She will retire in August after serving Delta for 16 years.
“The Class of 2021 is a very special group,” Goodnow said. “They’ve endured a worldwide pandemic, all the while working hard toward their degree and future. They’ve demonstrated flexibility, determination and resolve, which are all important traits to have as they enter the next chapter of their lives. I am so proud of them.”
This is the second outdoor commencement event Delta has hosted to ensure safe distances during the Covid-19 pandemic. The first one took place last June.
