Delta College is currently accepting scholarship applications from future and current students for the 2021-2022 academic year.
The application period goes from December 16, 2020 through February 3, 2021. Last year, 552 students received privately funded scholarships totaling $680,000.
“Many young people are uncertain about their futures, especially given the ongoing pandemic in our region and nation,” said Pamela Clark, executive director of Institutional Advancement. “Having others invest in their education and future can make all the difference in the world.”
Clark said any student can apply for a scholarship, and they are encouraged to do so because it’ll reduce the cost of tuition and it’s a gift, so students don’t have to pay it back.
Essays are an important focus of the scholarship application; the essays are scored anonymously by scholarship raters. Judging criteria includes word count, spelling and grammar, and demonstration of knowledge and emotional connection. The first round of applicants will be notified of their awards on April 6; the second round is April 22.
Every year, the Delta College Foundation supports hundreds of students through the generosity of donors who provide funding for the scholarships. To apply or learn more, visit delta.edu/scholarships.
Learn about Delta students and make a difference in their lives by rating scholarship applications. The volunteer opportunity includes reading and scoring essays from February 10-March 10. The process is anonymous, so raters do not see any of the student’s personal information. Email foundation@delta.edu to sign up or for more information.
