Delta College placed sixth in the nation in private fundraising efforts among community colleges that participated in an annual survey conducted by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
The college also placed first among community colleges in Michigan. In 2019, Delta raised $6.8 million from the private sector, a 146.7 percent increase from 2018.
Pam Clark, executive director of Institutional Advancement for Delta, said the increase is in large part due to major contributions in support of Delta’s new Downtown Midland Center construction.
“These are unusual times in our region, state and nation,” said Clark. “During the pandemic, many of our students have been in need of additional support to continue their education. Our donors have stepped up with their contributions and we greatly appreciate it.”
Clark said Delta College’s public broadcasting stations, WDCQ-TV and WUCX-FM, also received strong support. The stations recently partnered with a statewide initiative, At-Home Learning, to offer programming and resources for K-12 students.
“This recognition is a direct reflection of the unwavering generosity of our supporters, who give so we can give our very best to our students,” said Dr. Jean Goodnow, president of Delta. “I’m truly thankful for their support because it empowers Delta to continue its mission of providing a high-quality education.”
Charitable contributions to colleges and universities in the United States increased 6.1 percent in 2018, reaching a total of $49.6 billion in 2019, according to the Voluntary Support of Education survey. This year’s total is the highest recorded since the inception of the survey in 1957.
