Honoring those who served

Delta College Public Media has honored area veterans for over 18 years through locally produced documentaries and special veteran programs on our TV and radio stations (WDCQ-TV and WUCX-90.1 FM).

November is Military Appreciation Month, and Delta College Public Media will proudly honor military service men and women with a special broadcast on Monday, November 20.

B52

As part of this special event, Delta College Public Media invites you to honor your military family and friends by including their names and photo in a special veterans broadcast on WDCQ-TV and WUCX-90.1 FM.

WDCQ-TV’s special veterans program beginning at 8pm will premiere its newest locally produced documentary, “The B-52 and Oscoda: The Making of Wurtsmith Air Force Base,” a program dedicated to all Americans who are serving or have served in all branches of the Armed Forces. The submitted names will be read periodically throughout the day on WUCX-90.1 FM starting at 6am. A video of all the submissions will also be available on the Delta College Public Media website.

The B-52 and Oscoda: The Making of Wurtsmith Air Force Base

Residents who’ve lived or spent time anywhere near the small town of Oscoda in Michigan’s Iosco County from the 1950s to 1990s are likely familiar with the sounds and sights of military aircraft around the area. This documentary looks at life on Wurtsmith Air Force Base, the town of Oscoda and how the two became intertwined over the years. The Wurtsmith Air Force base was one of three Strategic Air Command bases in Michigan with the B-52 bomber.

To honor your military family and friends, please complete the honor form on the enclosed envelope or submit your information online at DeltaPublicMedia.org. Photo submissions are only accepted by email with your contact information and the individual’s name in the photo. All photos can be emailed to DCPMevents@delta.edu and must be received by Friday, November 10.

So, mark November 20 on your calendar to honor your military friends and family, and please consider a gift within your means.
