Letter from the Delta College Foundation Chair

Herb SpenceWelcome to our fall issue of Journeys!

As Chair of the Delta College Foundation, I am pleased to give you a preview of what you will find in this magazine.

Expanding our skilled workforce is a top priority for almost every business in our region. This is especially true for the rapidly growing semiconductor industry we are blessed to have in our area. You can read about Delta’s partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), geared to meet these specific needs.

You will also read about a generous donation that has enabled students and community visitors to enjoy African artifact exhibits on campus. And, please read the article about Delta College Public Media’s upcoming “Salute to Veterans.”

There is an alumnus profile of Paul Haselhuhn, AIA, president of WTA Architects. Our company has been privileged to work with Paul and his team at WTA for many years on significant projects in our area.

Delta always strives to improve access to the great education they provide students of all ages, regardless of their financial situation. The generosity of individuals and organizations greatly aids these efforts through donations to the Delta College Foundation.

You can read about two new scholarships and those who made them possible:

Frank and Helen Gerace Endowed Scholarship – Frank and Helen were admired for decades in the region’s construction industry as CEO and CFO of Gerace Construction, and in the community for their involvement and generosity. Their generosity is still making a difference for students and our region.

Saginaw Forty & Eight Endowed Scholarship – The Forty & Eight was founded nationally in 1920 by American veterans returning from World War I. Their scholarship will help students pursue a nursing degree, which will help fill critical needs for our region’s healthcare providers.

Finally, there is a profile of a Possible Dream program student, and the details of the amazing Chocolate Affair on November 2 at Horizons. Don’t miss this delicious way to support this important program!

Thanks for checking out Journeys and for all you do to help make a “Delta Difference.”
