Excitement, interest and a whole lot of Pioneer pride were felt and seen at two events held in August to celebrate the opening of Delta College’s Downtown Midland Center.
Community members, students and families attended the grand-opening open house on Saturday August 7 and legislators, supporters and donors attended a formal dedication ceremony on August 12.
“This remarkable building represents an investment by the Midland community in the
local workforce, in our students and in our future,” said President Emeritus Dr. Jean
Goodnow. “It also represents Delta’s commitment to education for decades to come.”
Located just a few blocks from bustling Main Street, the new building serves the educational needs of students from Midland and the surrounding areas. Students can take business, health, science and transfer courses in a variety of online and face-to-face formats. The building will also serve as a space for area high school students to earn college credits through dual enrollment.
Off to a great start
Classes began August 28 with more than 450 students. The facility includes science and computer labs, classrooms, special-use training rooms and student services. It will bring new opportunities for innovation, and programs focus on STEM to meet the needs of area employers.
Seven different programs are offered, including associate in arts, associate in science, digital forensics, entrepreneur/small business, environmental technology, management and an advanced certificate in health foundations.
