Letter from the Chair

Tina S. Van DamAll of us who support Delta College in multiple ways are largely motivated to do so to benefit our students. They are what Delta College is all about. The fall is special as we see them come to one of our campuses full of promise and enthusiasm, facing new challenges, opening new doors in their thinking and skill development, exploring new careers and starting new lives. They are different ages, have various backgrounds, but all are working for better futures.

This academic year, the Delta College Foundation awarded $638,685 in scholarship funding to 574 students. Throughout this publication, you will see a listing of those scholarship recipients. We hope you will join in the effort to increase the numbers next year, helping people change their lives. Students like Abbie Brown of Caro who won Delta College’s Dr. William R. Collings Award of Excellence for Academic Achievement and Superior Citizenship (page 22). Abbie graduated from Delta’s physical therapist assistant program and scored a perfect 800 on the national physical therapy licensing examination. This is a strong testament to both her abilities and the quality of a Delta education.

Other recent recipients of recognition for high achievement are TV Producer Bob Przybylski of Delta College’s public broadcasting station WDCQ-TV and Kim Wells, Associate Professor of Electronic Media. Both won an Emmy Award from the Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (page 14-15). Przybylski received an EMMY in the Historical Documentary category his production of “VIETNAM VOICES: Mid-Michigan Remembers the Vietnam War.” Wells won her EMMY in the Editor – Program (Non-News) category for her documentary, “My Two Brothers.” We thank the many folks in the Great Lakes Bay Region whose generosity has enabled Delta College to continue its important mission and remain one of the best community colleges in the nation. Some areas needing support are: scholarships, building curricula that will prepare students for available jobs, even emergency funds for unexpected student crises. Please invest in our community by returning the enclosed gift envelope or visiting www.delta.edu/foundation to make a tax-deductible contribution. Thanks to all our friends and supporters,

Tina S. Van Dam
