It took a few years, but after attending Delta College as a dual-enrolled student his senior year of high school, James returned to discover his future career.

“I was always interested in science and knew from a young age that I wanted to work in healthcare of some sort, but I didn’t really know exactly what it was going to be. There was a time when I wanted to be a dentist.”
After working a retail job for six years, James decided it was time to get back on track with his ambition to work in healthcare. At Delta, he dabbled in general education and science courses for a few semesters, then decided on pre-pharmacy.
“What led me to study pharmacy was my interest in science. I’m really interested in the human body, all the reactions that take place, and particularly how drugs can affect the whole. Science is the basis of life.”
Easing Back Into School
“It had been a while since I graduated high school. Delta College helped me ease back into it.”
The staff helped with course selection and he got some help at the Tutoring Center, but he feels the small classes helped him succeed.
“The biggest thing about Delta that I think is an advantage is having smaller class sizes. It lets you create more personal relationships with your classmates and also with the professors. Most of the professors know all their students.”

Transferring to Ferris State University to study pharmacy
James feels those relationships with the science faculty helped him ‘get it’ here and will help him as he transitions to pharmacy school.
“Delta College has helped prepare me for my future career by giving me a good base for the science I’m going to need when I get to the more advanced stuff at pharmacy school.”
