Alina Alam has dreamed about going to New York University since she was in seventh grade.
Her dream is now a reality, and dual-enrolling at Delta College as a high school senior at Saginaw Heritage helped make it happen.
"Delta helped me think big by helping me figure out those big dreams and making me excited for them," she said. "I think there are so many choices and connections that you can make here. It gave me the opportunity to explore classes, myself and my interests, and that has given me more options about what I might want to do with my future."
Expoloring her options
Alina’s ultimate goal is to become a surgeon, but she is starting her studies at NYU majoring in English literature and minoring in biology after enjoying classes in both subjects at Delta. Her Delta credits in psychology and child development transferred to NYU.
"Taking classes at Delta helped solidify my decision to go into the medical field," said Alina, who was still able to participate in most high school activities as a dual-enrolled student. "That gave me a really good introduction to what classes will be like in college and in medical school. I learned better time management skills and studying skills. Delta helped me think big and set the stage for what is yet to come and is making me excited for university life."
One of Alina’s favorite things about Delta is the small class sizes that allow professors to get to know students and help them learn how to think in new ways. That and the sheer variety of classes available.
“Delta is a really great place to explore if you don’t really know your major yet. They have so many class options and great professors who teach those classes.”

I definitely think being dual-enrolled at Delta helped me prepare for NYU."
