Course Description

Prerequisites: Prerequisites: CAD 114 or permission of the instructor and knowledge of a windows operating system.

Drafting and design experience is a plus. Designed for the user with some previous CAD experience. Training courseware is used to thoroughly investigate the various options available in drawing commands, modification commands and dialog boxes. Practical real-world examples used to practice each functionality. Learning objectives of the lessons and exercises in this course support preparation for a computer aided design certification exam. (30-0)

Outcomes and Objectives

Use interface tools efficiently

Objectives:

  • Identify and state the purpose of the main interface elements
  • Identify and use keyboard functions
  • Use the shortcut menu to access commands and options
  • Open, create, and save drawings
  • Use different Zoom commands to control view navigation
  • Use a wheel mouse to zoom and pan in the drawing
  • Use the Regen command to regenerate the drawing

Create basic geometry as building blocks for complex drawings.

Objectives:

  • Identify Absulute, Relative and Relative Polar Coordinate systems.
  • Use direct distance entry and dynamic input in the completion of geometry
  • Use Line, Circle, Arc, Erase, Rectangle and Polygon commands to create and delete geometry
  • Employ object snaps to accurately place and create objects in the drawing
  • Activate and use polar tracking and Polar Snap to create accurate geometry
  • Enable and use object snap tracking to position geometry
  • Use the Unit command to set up the drawing environment

Modify and manipulate geometry to edit a drawing

Objectives:

  • Use various selection methods effectively
  • Practice the options of the Move, Copy, Rotate, Mirror, Scale and Array commands
  • Edit objects and display geometric information using grips
  • Change the length of objects using the Trim and Extend commands.
  • Create paraallel and offset geometry
  • Combine multiple objects into a single object using the Join command
  • Use the Break and Break at Point commands
  • Apply radius and angled corners using the Fillet and Chamfer commands
  • Alter the shape of objects using the Stretch command

Use the electronic drawing environment to organize and drawing and obtain geometric information from drawing objects

Objectives:

  • Create and manage layers
  • Load and set linetypes
  • Describe the purpose of Layer 0
  • Use Properties and Quick Properties to modify object properties
  • Apply properties from a source object to destination objects using Match Properties
  • Use the Inquiry commands: Distance, Area, List and ID to obtain geometric information

Create and edit annotation objects

  • Use the Mtext command to create multiline text
  • Create single line text
  • Use different methods to edit text
  • Create text styles to manage text

Create. Edit, and manage dimensions in a typical design environment

Objectives:

  • Dimension linear and curved objects
  • Create and use dimension styles to manage dimensions
  • Create and edit multileader sytles and multileaders
  • Use various commands and methods to edit dimensions

Access and use reusable content

Objectives:

  • Create a block definition and insert a block into a drawing
  • Add attribute information to blocks
  • Use Design Center to reuse the data in a drawing
  • Build a custom tool palette
  • Access and use reusable content from online sources

Create advanced drawing objects

Objectives:

  • Create and edit polylines
  • Use the Spline command
  • Create ellipes and ellipical arcs
  • Use table styles to create and edit tables
  • Extract attribute information from blocks to create tables
  • Create hatch and gradient fill patterns on objects
  • Edit hatch and gradient fill patterns

Prepare documents for plotting

Objectives:

  • Create drawing templates
  • Create a new layout
  • Describe the purpose and key properties of layouts
  • Create and scale a viewport
  • Move, copy, resize, and delete viewports
  • Create and apply page setups to layouts
  • Plot design geometry from model space or from a layout
