Health Information Technology

General Description

Workers in this role will support on an ongoing basis the technology deployed in clinical and public health settings. They maintain systems in clinical and public health settings, including patching and upgrading of software. They also provide one-on-one support, in a traditional "help desk" model, to individual users with questions or problems.

 

Background

Individuals training for this role will have a general background in information technology or health information management.

 

Competencies

Workers in this role will be able to:

  • Interact with end users to diagnose IT problems and implement solutions.
  • Document IT problems and evaluate the effectiveness of problem resolution.
  • Support systems security and standards.
  • Assist end users with the execution of audits and related privacy and security functions.
  • Incorporate usability principles into ongoing software configuration and implementation.
  • Ensure that the hardware/software "fail-over" and related capabilities are appropriately implemented to minimize system downtime.
  • Ensure that privacy and security functions are appropriately configured and activated in hardware and software.
  • Interact with the vendors as needed to rectify technical problems that occur during the deployment process.
  • Work with the vendor and other sources of information to find the solution to a user’s question or problem as needed.

 

Preferred Candidate Qualifications

Our target population includes currently employed health care and information technology professionals, recent health care and IT graduates, current health care and IT students, displaced health care and IT workers, and returning veterans with health care and/or IT skills gained during military service. We will make a special effort to recruit professionals in health care and IT occupations with estimates of flat or declining annual openings. The grant supports scholarships and tuition reimbursements for incumbent or dislocated workers with backgrounds in health care or IT.

Seats will be offered to applicants who best meet the preferred candidate qualifications:

  • Required Educational Experience: an associate or bachelor’s degree in a health care career or information technology from an accredited college.
  • Preferred Work Experience: a minimum one year of work or military experience in a health care or informational technology occupation/field. 

 

Program Selection

Applications will be reviewed and accepted on an ongoing basis. Positions will be offered to the first applicants meeting the preferred candidate qualifications.

 

Cost

Admission Fee: $20 - The online learning management system (D2L) used for the HIT program requires a Delta College student ID and password. Students needing to obtain a student ID and password must go through Admission to Delta College.

Course Fees:  Course fees are based on required course work within your learning plan. 

 

Schedule

Course work is self-paced, open-entry/exit and delivered predominantly online.

 

Student Responsibilities

  • Complete program within 6 months
  • Pay remaining balance due, including textbooks
  • Up to date contact information on student file
  • Notify Delta College of your employment success upon completion of the program
