Delta Making Headlines
Delta College is one of America's leading community colleges and we have seen success on a national level again this year.
Innovative Programs
Our Chemical Process Technology program has been recognized nationally as a model for retraining displaced workers. Vice President Joe Biden visited Delta College to highlight the success of that program and emerging green jobs.
Delta College also continues to innovate, adding an alternative energy program - including solar and wind - to our offerings, and implementing sustainability principles across the curriculum to ensure students are prepared for the global economy.
Award-Winning Faculty
Our faculty members are recognized leaders, including Mary Beth Looby, who was named the Michigan Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation. And Katrina Nichols and Trisha O'Connor were among 26 highly successful community college faculty members participating in a nationwide project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
A Great Employer Serving the Community
Delta is also a Great College to Work For, as determined by a survey for The Chronicle of Higher Education. In fact, we were one of a handful of community colleges in the nation to receive Honor Roll ranking. Delta was also named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Our students have donated 424,416 hours of service to communities in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Educating & Training for Local Professions
The stories are endless, but they prove over and over that successful Delta College graduates are everywhere. Consider that Delta educates the majority of some of the key professions in our region and is a leader in career retraining. In fact, one in eight residents of the area have taken a class at Delta within the past five years. Our students earn certificates and associate degrees, and transfer successfully to other colleges and universities to earn bachelor degrees. That's just one way Delta demonstrates its multi-million dollar impact on the local economy.
Bringing Businesses to the Community
Another is our ability to be a reliable partner to business. That was proven recently as GlobalWatt, a solar technology company, and Dow Kokam, a lithium battery manufacturer, chose to locate in the Great Lakes Bay Region, in part due to our recognized ability to fast track workers in retraining. When a business can grow and provide new jobs in partnership with Delta, that's good for all of us!
