Grant Process

Seeking Grant Funding?

There is a process to follow before you apply for any grant in Delta College’s name. The steps include:

  • Download and complete the Decision Matrix Questionnaire, which must be completed prior to development of your application.
  • Get your supervisor’s approval to proceed.
  • All grants must be approved by the President’s Cabinet before applying. If you need assistance with that process, reach out to the Vice President in charge of your area or send the completed form to Pam Clark for assistance.
  • Additional steps will include the involvement of the Finance department, Human Resources (if hiring is involved) and Facilities (if equipment placement is involved).
  • Remember, most grants are announced with a deadline that is just 4 to 6 weeks out from the notice. Plan and give yourself time to get the work done.
  • Finally, be aware that only the President can sign to submit or accept any grant funding on behalf of the College.

What are some of the sections of a typical grant announcement that will give you the information you need to determine if this is a good fit?

  • Introduction: This section provides an overview of the funding opportunity, including the purpose of the grant, the agency issuing the grant, and any relevant background information.
  • Program Description: Here, you'll find detailed information about the goals, objectives, and priorities of the funding program. This section often outlines the specific activities or projects that the grant aims to support.
  • Eligibility: A first step is to be sure a community college is qualified to apply. The announcement will specify who is eligible to apply for the grant. This may include criteria such as geographic location, type of organization, specific qualifications or expertise required.
  • Application Instructions: This section outlines the process for applying for the grant, including any required forms, documentation, or supporting materials. It will detail how to submit the application, deadlines, and any specific formatting or content requirements. You will be assisted in getting all this paperwork for submission, but you are the expert in writing the narrative.
  • Evaluation Criteria: This section specifies the criteria that will be used to evaluate grant applications. This may include factors such as alignment with program goals, feasibility of the proposed project, and capacity of the applicant organization to carry out the work.
  • Budget Information: You'll find information about the available funding for the grant program, as well as any restrictions or requirements related to budgeting and financial reporting. Delta College’s Finance department must be involved to review and approve the figures included in this section, prior to submission.
  • Timeline: This section provides a timeline for the grant application process, including deadlines for submitting applications, anticipated dates for award notifications, and the expected start date for funded projects.

It is also essential that you write your proposal ensuring that you align your application to Delta College’s strategic plan. And, understanding each of the elements above will help you effectively navigate the grant application process and to craft a competitive proposal.
