Andrew J. Feustel, PhD
Dr. Feustel is an active duty astronaut and has made time to speak to students and community members in our area! This FREE event will be held at the historic State Theater, and you won't want to miss out on being a part of this possibly life-altering experience. He will be presenting AMAZING video footage and images of his time in space and you will feel like you are right there with him. He is a fantastic speaker and very adept at fielding any kind of question thrown at him, from the technical to the mundane.
Dr. Feustel was selected as a Mission Specialist by NASA in July 2000. He has completed two missions, including a repair mission to the Hubble Space Telescope in 2009. Dr. Feustel then launched on the penultimate mission of NASA’s Space Shuttle Program in 2011. The mission marked the final flight of Space Shuttle Endeavour. This flight delivered the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer and an ExPRESS Logistics Carrier to the International Space Station. He is providing our area with a unique opportunity to meet with and ask questions of an active duty astronaut!
Dr. Feustel is a Michigan native who graduated from Lake Orion High School in Lake Orion, Michigan. He began his educational journey at Oakland Community College, Michigan. His experience earning his Associate Science degree at a community college inspired him to further his education, going on to earn his B.S. in Solid Earth Sciences and a M.S. in Geophysics from Purdue University. He completed his Ph.D. in Geological Sciences, specializing in Seismology, at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 1995.
