How to use walk in tutoring.

T/LC services are provided free of charge to students currently enrolled in academic classes at Delta. You must have a Delta student ID or other picture ID to obtain walk-in tutoring.

  • Come to our front desk with your Delta ID and tell the receptionist what class you are seeking help for.
  • Visit the tutoring center as soon as you run into difficulties, even if it’s the first day of class!  The sooner you tackle a problem the easier it is to solve.
  • Prepare for your tutoring session.  Read your text, write the draft of your essay, do some of the homework problems.  The tutor can’t help you with a blank page.
  • Bring your textbook, syllabus, old tests,  notes and handouts, current assignment, previous papers or assignments, and any other materials that will help the tutor understand the assignment and what you are doing in class
  • Understand that for walk-in tutoring, the tutor will work with you as soon as possible, but will move on to assist other students, returning to check with you periodically.  You will be seated with other students working on the same or similar subjects. Take the opportunity to work together!
  • Remember some times of day, days of the week, and midterm and finals weeks are very busy at the T/LC.  Plan your visits, and don’t wait until the last minute before class to see a tutor!
On your visit, you CAN expect
  • a tutor to work with you as soon as one is available after you arrive.
  • a tutor to rotate among students.
  • a tutor to ask questions and make suggestions.
  • to work with other students occasionally.
You CANNOT expect
  • a tutor for all subjects at all times.
  • a tutor to work only with you for an hour at a time
  • a tutor to teach you material when you have missed class.
  • a tutor to do work that you should do, such as take notes or proofread.
