Confidentiality

Overview

It is important that the right to privacy and confidentiality is guarded for the student with a disability seeking the College's assistance in their learning experience.

Any documentation and verification of a disability is kept separate from academic records, and is not shared with anyone outside of Disability Services without the permission of the student, and then only when "the need to know" is understood and granted by the student.

Even formal accommodation requests are given to the instructor by the student.  A student is free to disclose as much or as little information with others as they determine reasonable and necessary to meet their academic needs.

• Student records in Disability Services are confidential in nature
• Records are kept separate from educational records and academic files
• A student's disability is not communicated to instructors without the student's permission and knowledge
• Accommodations received are not reflected on a student's transcript or diploma
