Science Olympiad - Region IV
Exploring the world of Science!
Science Olympiad is an academic interscholastic competition designed to increase student interest in science and improve the quality of science education. For over 25 years, Science Olympiad has promoted problem solving and skill-building activities in:
- Life, Personal & Social Science
- Earth & Space Science
- Physical Science & Chemistry
- Technology & Engineering
- Inquiry & Nature of Science
Region IV Science Olympiad includes Division B (grades 6-9) and Division C (grades 9-12) teams from schools in the following counties: Arenac, Bay, Huron, Midland, Saginaw, Sanilac, and Tuscola. The top teams from our Regional tournament continue on to the State Science Olympiad tournament, held at M.S.U., on April 30, 2011. The National Science Olympiad tournament will be held at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, on May 21, 2011.

REGISTRATION:
You must register with the State Science Olympiad and our Region to compete.
1) Register and pay with the State Science Olympiad. Go to the State’s link in the upper-right to register your team. Click on ‘Membership’. The deadline is 12/31/10.
2) Register and pay with our Region. Print the registration form below. Send in the completed form with payment to the address on the form. The deadline is 1/31/11.
3) You will receive the Science Olympiad Events-Booklet, which contains the rules and guidelines for each event. The students will use this booklet to guide their preparation. Also, you may go to the State’s website to collect information on ‘Invitationals’ throughout the state (these are competitive tournaments to provide practice before the Regional Tournaments).

GRANT INFORMATION:
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) "advances the state of aerospace, engineering, and technical leadership". They offer up to $200 for your science program, per school, primarily to provide/pay for supplies for flying objects and robotics. Go to their website: http://www.aiaa.org/. You must be a member first, but the it is free for educators (apply online). Then, go to the 'forms' link and apply for the $200 grant.
