Highlights from the Successful 2015 3rd Dow Great Lakes Bay STEM Festival!
This incredible STEM opportunity -- the Dow Great Lakes Bay STEM Festival returned to the Delta College Main Campus on September 25-26, 2015 and proved to be even more exciting than in 2014.
On Friday, September 25, 2015, and Saturday, September 26, 2015, Delta College hosted the 3rd Annual Dow Great Lakes Bay STEM Festival. This two-day event focused on rekindling an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) among area students through activities that brought the “WOW” of STEM to life! Friday was middle school day and there were more than 3,600 middle school students, teachers and chaperones that attended this free event. Saturday was open to the public with more than 3,000 attendees. Many of the students returned with their parents to share the exciting demos they had experienced the day before and explored other exhibits they did not have time to visit on their first day.
The event was a shared collaboration among Delta College, Michigan Technology University, The Dow Chemical Company, Nexteer, General Motors, Bay Area Community Foundation, Saginaw Community Foundation, Midland Area Community Foundation, and the Michigan Department of Transportation. In addition, more than 20 Delta College departments and clubs, 250 Delta student and staff volunteers, and more than 30 different groups from higher ed, non-profits, corporations, and other groups dedicated themselves to provide students with a non-traditional educational experience. It was a huge win for STEM, for area students and for Delta College.
