Highlights from the Successful 2013 Dow Great Lakes Bay Science and Engineering Festival!
On Friday, October 4, 2013, and Saturday, October 5, 2013, Delta College hosted the Dow Great Lakes Bay Science and Engineering Festival. This two-day event focused on rekindling an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) among area students through activities that brought the “WOW” of STEM to life. Friday was middle school day and there were approximately 3,000 students, teachers and chaperones that attended this free event. Saturday was open to the public and many of the students returned with their parents to share the exciting demos they had experienced the day before and to explore other exhibits that did not have time to visit on their first day.
The event was a shared collaboration between Delta College, Michigan Technology University, Dow Chemical, the American Chemical Society, Dow Corning, Dow Corning Foundation, Midland Area Community Foundation, SC Johnson, ACS, Michigan Technological University, Saginaw Community Foundation, Bay Area Community Foundation, RAM, Michigan Tech Mobile Laboratory, Denso, MDOT, Holiday Inn Midland, Nexteer, GM, Consumers Energy and over 29 different groups from higher ed, non-profits, corporations, and other groups dedicated to providing students with a non-traditional educational experience. It was a huge win for STEM, for area students and for Delta College.
A fun time for all!
