Sheetmetal II

SKMT 172

Course Description

Prerequisite: SKMT 171. Continuation of Sheetmetal I. Projects involve fabrication of complex pieces to actual specification using tools common to the trade. (45)

Outcomes and Objectives

Identify fittings that require parallel line development.

Objectives:

  • Identify such fittings as round tees, round elbows, and round offsets.

Develop patterns for common fittings, such as: tees, elbows, offsets.

Objectives:

  • Calculate circumference of a circle.
  • Divide a given line into a number of equal parts.
  • Divide a semi-circle into a number of equal parts.
  • Measure and draw accurately + 1/32".

Fabricate common fittings, such as: tees, elbows, offsets so that they meet the given specifications for the use of the fitting, ie (proper angle, diameter, length, and how parts fit together).

Objectives:

  • Demonstrate the proper use of hand tools to cut out and form parts needed for the fitting, ie (scratch awl, tin snips, aviation snips, hand seamers, hand benders).
  • Demonstrate the proper set up and use of bench and floor machines to form parts for a fitting. The machines would include: bar fold, bench stakes, rotary bench machines, box and pan brake, rolls, spot welder, Pittsburg machine.

Identify fittings that require triangulation development.

Objectives:

  • Identify the method of forming the metal for a given fitting to determine triangulation development. The fitting can be formed by rolling and/or braking and the lines used to develop the patterns form triangles.

Develop patterns for fittings, such as: rectangle to round offset, round tapes, rectangle-to-round pitch at the top, 3 pc. rectangle-to-round elbow.

Objectives:

  • Calculate the circumference of a circle.
  • Divide a semi-circle into equal parts.
  • Determine true length lines to develop patterns using right triangles.

Fabricate fittings that have been developed using triangulation, such as: rectangle to round offset, round tapes, rectangle to round pitch at the top, 3 pc. rectangle-to-round elbow.

Objectives:

  • Demonstrate the proper use of hand tools to cut out and form parts needed for the fitting.
  • Demonstrate the proper set up and use of bench and floor machines to form parts for a fitting.
