Course Description

Prerequisite: Permission of music department. Private instruction/lessons provided and a minimum number of hours of weekly practice is required. A jury examination will be held at the end of each semester. (30-0)

Outcomes and Objectives

Demonstrate basic tonal and technical performance skills. (Woodwinds, Brass, Strings)

Objectives:

  • Demonstrate tonal studies at various dynamics, intonation, breath control lip slurs (brass), positions (strings).
  • Attempt (depending upon available instrumentation) to play chamber music.
  • Know all major arpeggios, memorized, full range of instrument, in several articulations, working toward 8th notes with quarter note=120.

Demonstrate a basic level of stylistic interpretation.

Objectives:

  • Demonstrate at least 5 pieces studied from the following choices (Woodwinds, Brass, and Strings):

  • (Organ):
