Course Description

Prerequisite: LWA 114. Provides an opportunity to utilize advanced techniques in a non-contact martial art class at an advanced intermediate level. (0-30)

Outcomes and Objectives

Describe and explain the concepts and components of Tae Kwon Do III.

Objectives:

  • List and describe the five health-related components of fitness and explain how they apply to Tae Kwon Do.
  • List the six essential nutrients, the caloric value and food source of each, and the relationship of each nutrient to the current Food Guide Pyramid.
  • Describe and explain the relationship of Tae Kwon Do's physical applications to their individual lifestyles.
  • Describe and explain the art of Tae Kwon Do.
  • Describe and explain the flexibility and stretching exercises used during the class and the relationship of these exercises to the art of Tae Kwon Do.
  • Describe and explain the personal self-defense applications of the art of Tae Kwon Do.
  • Describe and explain the six Theories of Power of Tae Kwon Do.
  • Describe and explain the six Tenets of Tae Kwon Do.
  • Describe and explain the tournament patterns and sparring techniques of Tae Kwon Do.

Demonstrate the concepts and components of Tae Kwon Do III.

Objectives:

  • Perform a set of personalized advanced intermediate stretching and flexibility exercises.
  • Perform at an advanced intermediate level the following technical motions:
  • Demonstrate at an advanced intermediate level a routine or pattern of Tae Kwon Do.
  • Demonstrate combinations (offensive and defensive moves in a sequence) at an advanced intermediate level on rhythm and balance.
  • Demonstrate safe sparring to include:
  • Demonstrate advanced intermediate skills (increased speed, power, and balance) during bag work.
  • Perform advanced intermediate levels of breaking techniques.
  • Demonstrate the ability to pronounce and execute advanced intermediate Korean Tae Kwon Do commands and technical terms.
  • Demonstrate Tae Kwon Do tournament patterns and sparring techniques.
