Course Description

Prerequisites: Prerequisites: READING LEVEL 2 and WRITING LEVEL 2 and MATH LEVEL 2.

Focuses on the interrelationships between humans and the physical environment of this, the largest of the landform provinces of Canada. Major topics include the physical environment, natural resources, recreation, and settlement patterns. Required classroom work, travel and field research will help the students to develop their understanding of this wilderness area. Student must pay own expenses for field trip. (15-0)

Outcomes and Objectives

Demonstrate first hand knowledge of the environment and people of the Canadian Shield. Field based learning and interaction with local resource people, allow students to use all their senses in the learning process. It is a real world learning experience.

Objectives:

  • Understand the environmental process that interact to form the surface landscape.
  • Understand the cultural/historical forces that have interacted to form the cultural landscape.
  • Understand how man's activities have impacted on the current landscape of this region.
