Course Description

Prerequisites: Prerequisites: DH 120, DH 121, DH 122, DH 123, DH 123L, DH 124A, DH 125, and LW 206A, each with a "C" (2.

0) minimum grade. Concurrent enrollment in DH 124B, DH 130, DH 131, and LWA 206B. Provides the opportunity to practice and increase the students' proficiency skill levels from previous Dental Hygiene courses. (7.5-90)

Outcomes and Objectives

Assess oral conditions, detect supragingival and subgingival calculus; accurately measure the depth of the gingival sulcus and/or periodontal pockets; and identify stain and plaque in dental hygiene cases. Furthermore, effectively remove supragingival and subgingival calculus while treating uncomplicated dental hygiene cases and demonstrate competencies for periodontally involved dental hygiene cases at a beginning level.

Objectives:

  • Demonstrate various skills and services at the stated competency level. Patient Requirements:
  • Demonstrate various skills and competencies in the following areas: medical emergency training, intra oral camera, digital radiographs, ultrasonics, and air abrasives.
  • Function in a professional manner. Direct observation will be made throughout the clinic sessions. Professionalism will be observed. Professionalism for Dental Hygiene students consists of accurate and neat recording of legal records, confidentiality of patient records, professional appearance, proper attitude toward patient care, and mature interpersonal relations with all members of the dental health team.
