Course Description

Prerequisite: CST 162. Configures various types of servers. Defines and configures the NetWare graphical user interface. Administers NetWare Storage Services, NetWare Memory Management, and Novell Directory Services.(45-0)

  • Describe Novell License Services.
  • Install Novell License Services.
  • Perform License management tasks.

Configure various servers.

Objectives:

  • Configure a DHCP Server.
  • Configure a DNS Server.
  • Configure NetWare FTP Server.
  • Configure NetWare News Server.
  • Configure NetWare MultiMedia Server.
  • Configure NetWare Web Search Server.

Define and Configure the NetWare Graphical User Interface.

Objectives:

  • Identify administrative tasks performed with ConsoleOne.
  • Load and unload NetWare Loadable Modules.
  • Use server script files to automate console commands.
  • Execute commands at the server console.
  • Define methods for protecting the server.

Use NetWare Storage Services (NSS).

Objectives:

  • Define NSS and its components.
  • Describe the NSS architecture.
  • List the advantages and disadvantages of using NSS.
  • Implement NSS.
  • Manage storage groups and NSS volumes.
  • Identify methods for optimizing disk space.

Use NetWare Memory Management.

Objectives:

  • Describe NetWare Memory Management.
  • Describe and manage virtual memory.
  • Monitor and modify cache performance.
  • Identify server buffer and packet parameters.

Administer Novell Directory Services (NDS).

Objectives:

  • Identify basic administration procedures for the NDS database.
  • Troubleshoot NDS database inconsistencies.
  • Identify NDS repair procedures.
  • Recover a crashed SYS volume.
  • Configure the Compatibility Mode Driver (CMD).
  • Explain backup strategies.
  • Back up data with NWBACK32.
