2009 Enrichment Activities

  • In January the Possible Dream Program hit the slopes at Apple Mt. in Freeland.  Students had a lesson to learn how to ski and also learn basic ski rules then were free the rest of the evening to practice their new skills.
  • In February 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students in the program spent the evening learning about how to apply for college, financial aid, and what programs Delta College has to offer at the College Connections night.
  • March took the Possible Dream students to The Detroit Science Center.  We learned about nutrition, electricity, motion, and saw a great IMAX movie on the creatures of the ocean.
  • The Wharton Center in East Lansing was our destination in April.  We were dazzled by the beautiful costumes and wonderful acting in the play The Lion King.
  • In May the program inducted 90 new sixth grade students and said goodbye to our graduating seniors.
  • On a beautiful day in June the program traveled to The Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes in Traverse City.  Students learned how the dunes were formed and The Legend of the Sleeping Bear.  Then students had a chance to enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Michigan high atop the dunes as well as take their own climb to the top at the Dune Climb.
  •  In July the Possible Dream students enjoyed a beautiful day at Comerica Park while we watched the Detroit Tigers take on the Seattle Mariners.
  • The Possible Dream Program took a trip back in time in August as we traveled to Greenfield Village.  Students enjoyed learning about the history of the area.
  • On a beautiful weekend in mid-September the Possible Dream Program took it's new 2009 inductees on an overnight trip to Hartley Nature Center.  Students spent their time there getting to know each other through ice breakers, craft activities, a campfire, and a visit to the challenge course to work on team building skills.
  • In October the Possible Dream students headed to the Midland Center for the Arts to the Einstein Exhibit.  Students learned about Albert Einstein's life and about his major contributions to the world of science and scientific theory.
