Nursing Scholar Program

To be eligible for the Nursing Scholar Program, you must be currently validated and meet the initial criteria of an overall GPA of 3.5 or better. Those students who validate Winter and Spring/Summer semesters and meet the GPA criteria, will be eligible to apply for the following Winter semester. Winter semester letters and applications are mailed out end-September.  Those students who validate Fall semester and meet the GPA criteria, will be eligible to apply for the following Fall semester.  Fall semester letters and applications are mailed out end-March. 

Each semester (Fall, Winter) we send out approximately 130 letters and applications to qualified applicants. We receive roughly half of those back.  We then choose an additional 12 students per semester to come in to the full-time RN program, and an additional 6 students to come into the part-time RN program each Fall semester. 

Students are rated based on the initial criteria of an overall GPA of 3.5 or better, number of credits completed at Delta College, work experience in the health care field, and written essay. Additional criteria include whether or not the student has completed any Honors Option courses. Points are subtracted if the student has had to repeat any of his/her BIO courses. 

The Delta College Nursing Scholar program was implemented in Fall 2006 as a pilot program in the part-time nursing program only. That semester we admitted 8 additional students, for a total of 30, to the part-time RN program, based on a minimum 3.2 GPA, number of credits completed at Delta College, written essay, and work experience in the health care field.

Winter 2007, the Nursing Scholar program was implemented in the full-time RN program. Again, based on based on a minimum 3.2 GPA, number of credits completed at Delta College, written essay, and work experience in the health care field, we accepted an additional 12 students into the full-time RN program, for a total of 60 students. 

The Nursing Scholar Program is now implemented each Fall and Winter semester in the full-time RN program, and Fall semester in the part-time RN program.
