Step 1:

Type the subject in the "Subject Keyword"  OR "Any Keyword (s)" box.

Click on the green "GO" button or press the "Enter" key.

Please NOTE that limiting results works ONLY with KEYWORD searches. If you want to find an author, subject, or title within Delta College Library only, you have to type the author, title, or subject in the "KEYWORD" boxes, such as "Author Keyword", "Subject Keyword", or "Title Keyword."

• Many instructors want the most recent information. You can ask ValCat to present the more recent items at the top of the list.
  
• Click on the down arrow within the "Sort by:" white box. This will cause a window to drop down.
  
• Click (choose) "Publication date."

Step 3:

• The search found 867 titles (citations) within the ValCat system. This is not surprising since there are about 50 local library catalogs within ValCat.
• In order to select titles that are located at Delta Library, click on the down arrow within the "Limit by:" white box. A window will drop down.
• Click (choose) "This Location (Delta)."

 Step 4:

• Click on the "GO" button and ValCat will sort through the 867 titles and present only those titles that are located at Delta Library. The newest publications will be presented at the top of the list.

• Out of 867 titles, ValCat found 83 items within Delta Library that have something to do with alcoholism.
• Scroll down through the list in order to click on the highlighted title of your choice. When you click on the title, you will be given a bibliographic record with the all important call number.

• After scrolling down the list, number nine looks interesting. Click on the highlighted title "Alcohol: opposing viewpoints" in order to obtain the call number.

• This is a typical record for online catalogs. Often, you need to scroll down the record in order to find the call number for the item.
