Welcome to the Interlibrary Loan Department

Interlibrary Loan is available when the Delta College Library collection does not offer the material you need.  You can request books, periodical articles, or other materials.  Interlibrary Loan is available to Delta College administration, faculty, staff, and students.  Michigan residents not affiliated with Delta College may also use our interlibrary loan services.  If the request is for someone younger than 16, then a parent or guardian must initiate the interlibrary loan process.

The Delta College Library offers a variety of options in which a patron can place an interlibrary loan request.

• Interlibrary loan request forms can be obtained at the reference desk.  Once you have filled in all the necessary information, return the form to a librarian.  If you need assistance filling in the form, please ask our reference staff for assistance.

• Interlibrary loan request forms are now available online through the Library Learning Information webpage.  To place an request online, use the one of the links listed above.

• FirstSearch also allows the patron to place an interlibrary loan request.  Once you have something you wish to obtain through interlibrary loan, select the GET/DISPLAY ITEM.  It will then give you an INTERLIBRARY LOAN (ILL) option.  Select the ILL option and follow the directions on the screen.

• The local libraries in the Valley Library Consortium allow patrons to place their own holds on items through the online ValCat catalog.  This allows patrons to place a hold on locally-owned material.  Items are sent to the library from which the request was made.

Once the request has been placed, it is then processed by our Interlibrary Loan staff.  If the request can be filled from a local library, the request usually arrives within one or two weeks.  If the request must be filled by a library outside the local area, the request usually takes two or three weeks to arrive.  You will be notified when the request arrives at the Delta College Library, or if the request can not be filled. 

• All Interlibrary Loan material must be picked up at the Delta College Library.
• There is no charge for interlibrary loan service.
